The new "green" TownePlace Suites by Marriott in the Quonset Business Park is nearing completion. The 103-key extended stay hotel is being developed as part of the Gateway Parcel Master Development by New Boston Fund Inc. and Waterford Development. Pro Con, Inc. is the architect and construction manager for the $7.5 million sustainable design build hotel. Colwen Management will manage the hotel when it opens this spring.
"Interior finishes are underway and the furniture, fixtures and equipment will be installed in early March," said the project manager for Pro Con Inc.
The developer has registered the 4-story, 55,453 s/f hotel with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and intends to pursue certification under the USGBC's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program; making it one of the first LEED certified hotels in Rhode Island. Pro Con Inc.'s design incorporates many sustainable features including a geothermal system for heating and cooling, excavation material was crushed and reused for structural fill, the landscape plantings will be low water tolerant plants and the lawns will be watered using water collected from storm runoff.
TownePlace Suites by Marriott, which is designed for the extended stay traveler, will have separate working, lounging and sleeping areas. The studio, one and two bedroom-suites will also have kitchens equipped with a stovetop, microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. On-site amenities will include a breakfast buffet area, indoor pool, fitness room, outdoor patio and guest laundry. The hotel is located across from The Shops at Quonset Point at the intersection of Gate Rd. and Rte. 403.
