Scott Avedisian, Mayor of Warwick

I am pleased to announce a new city website, www.OurWarwick.com, which offers residents and businesses the opportunity to nominate places and events of interest throughout the city and to share their thoughts of Warwick.
The site offers several categories for visitors to peruse and to submit entries for consideration for inclusion: Warwick's Treasures features local places, Warwick's Traditions highlights events throughout the city, and Warwick's Heritage invites people to submit memories of the community. A Google map feature pinpoints all of the locales, making it easy for residents and out-of-town guests alike to visit the featured places and events. We hope to link the site to the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, which has been promoting the concept of documenting local history through stories to communities throughout the country.
The site also offers links to the Department of Tourism, Culture, and Development's Facebook and Twitter accounts, further helping to promote Warwick and complementing the department's ongoing efforts to promote our community to local, regional and national audiences.
In addition to the business community, we are reaching out to neighborhood associations, faith groups and civic organizations to promote the site and to invite their membership to submit nominations for inclusion on OurWawrick.com.
OurWarwick.com is a site that, I hope, our residents and those who work in Warwick will take ownership of, because they're the people who know our community best. It provides an opportunity for our city to celebrate all that makes Warwick special, and invites our citizens to be ambassadors, in a sense, for their neighborhoods and the city as a whole.
I hope you will take a moment to visit OurWarwick.com and sharing your thoughts with us.
Scott Avedisian is the mayor of Warwick and the chairman of the RIPTA board of directors.
