SGA hires Fickett as director of science + technology

Boston, MA SGA has hired veteran architect Matthew Fickett, AIA, CPHC, LEED as the new director of SGA’s fast-growing science + technology group.

“We’re pleased to welcome Matthew on board,” said SGA president and founding partner Al Spagnolo, AIA, NCARB. “We have a vibrant life sciences practice and Matthew’s years of experience creating high performance research space will further enhance our services to our growing list of clients nationally.”

Fickett has worked in laboratory design since 2006, and is coming to SGA from his position at EYP as the senior lab planner and senior associate.

Before that, he was a Project Architect and Associate at Perkins+Will, and an architect at Payette and Wilson Architects. He has designed laboratories for high-profile institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, Vanderbilt University, University of New Mexico, Fermilab, Columbia University, MIT Lincoln Lab and Skolkovo University.

Always on the lookout for opportunities to create unique, specialty labs for novel research, Mr. Fickett’s work includes cleanrooms for medical tissue processing, semiconductor and biological research, and fabrication for everything from medical devices to particle physics detector arrays. He has designed facilities for a wide variety of complex and sensitive instruments, from cryogenic electron microscopes to NMRs, human MRIs and interventional radiology suites, and both cryogenic and optical approaches to quantum computing. The same technical, principled approach to design underlies the technical details, sustainable goals, and ultimate scientific function of every project he leads.

“I am excited to join SGA and enhance the firm’s existing expertise in science and technology,” said Fickett. “We offer world-class services to our clients, and I’m glad to be a member of the team.”
