North Providence, RI Shawmut Design and Construction recently marked two major milestones on projects in North Providence alongside Mayor Charles Lombardi at Greystone Elementary School and Whelan Elementary School—two schools that will enhance learning opportunities for students.

First, the team celebrated the topping off of Greystone Elementary School with students, teachers, and community members. The new 76,000 s/f, two-level facility will provide an innovative learning environment. Built adjacent to the existing school, the original site will ultimately be transformed into open fields and playgrounds. Shawmut is leading construction management in partnership with LeftField as the owner's project manager as well as SLAM and StudioJAED as the architects.

At Whelan Elementary School, the project team hosted the community for a beam-signing ceremony—commemorating significant progress on the 40,000 s/f, two-level school, which will feature modern classrooms designed to foster collaborative learning. Shawmut is managing construction with LeftField serving as the owner's project manager and StudioJAED as the architect.
“A special thanks to Shawmut. Student involvement in a topping off has always been a priority of mine. This is something they will never forget,” said Mayor Charles Lombardi.
“We always look forward to celebrating construction milestones with the community—especially students—as we bring these cutting-edge learning environments to North Providence,” said Kevin Sullivan, executive vice president of the New England region at Shawmut Design and Construction.
