Sullivan of Standard Builders named on 2026 40 Under Forty list

Southington, CT Joshua Sullivan of Standard Builders has been named. one of the Hartford Business Journal’s 2026 40 Under Forty honorees, recognizing emerging leaders making an impact in their organizations, industries, and communities.

Sullivan began his career with Standard Builders in 2007 as a union laborer while earning degrees in resource economics and business management, and a master’s degree in construction management. Over nearly two decades with the company, he progressed through increasingly senior leadership roles before becoming the fifth president in Standard Builders’ more than 75-year history.

Since helping lead a growth initiative in 2018, Sullivan has played an integral role in Standard Builders’ continued expansion. During that period, the company has grown annual revenue from $50 million to more than $100 million, doubled its workforce to more than 100 employees, and expanded its presence into Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Among Sullivan’s most significant accomplishments is the establishment and growth of Standard Builders’ Boston-area operations. The operation now supports dedicated project management and field staff, and accounts for approximately half of the company’s annual revenue.

In addition to his leadership at Standard Builders, Sullivan serves on the Connecticut Construction Industries Association board of directors and is active in his local community and church. He also helps coordinate Standard Builders’ support of organizations including Foodshare and Provision Ministries.

Sullivan is the second member of Standard Builders’ current leadership team to receive the recognition. Vice president of project management Michael Avicolli was named to Hartford Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty class in 2020.

Sullivan and the other members of the 2026 40 Under Forty class will be recognized at the Hartford Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty Awards on September 17 at the Aqua Turf Club.
