The Hingham Shipyard celebrates its rebirth with 1.2m s/f of waterfront residences, office and retail

In February 1942, the Hingham Shipyard was born. With 15,000 workers on-site building the Navy's newest ship, the Destroyer Escort, the shipyard produced 227 ships over 3 ½ years during World War II, a record not claimed by any other shipyard in the U.S. In June 2010, the Hingham Shipyard will celebrate its rebirth. With 1.2 million s/f of waterfront residences, office and retail, the Shipyard will be the South Shore's newest transit-oriented multi-use development. Residents at the Hingham Shipyard can experience true "car-free" living. With Hewitt's Cove adjacent to the Shipyard, residents can take the popular MBTA ferry to Boston, and then return home and do their grocery shopping at Fresh Market, see a movie at the Patriot Cinemas, work out at Bodyscapes and grab some dinner and a cocktail at Alma Nove, Typhoon or Hingham Beerworks. In many ways, Hingham Shipyard defines the concept of "New Urbanism." Samuels & Associates has developed The Launch at Hingham Shipyard - 240,00 s/f of office (30,000 s/f) and commercial (210,000 s/f) space. Samuels is also developing the Moorings at Hingham Shipyard - three mid-rise buildings of 94 condominiums. Thursday, June 24th - Charity Shopping Day benefitting the National Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Friday, June 25th - "Meetcha" at the Shipyard. Meetcha.com, a new online community for 40+ singles will hold special events at the Shipyard every Friday night starting now and continuing through the summer. Saturday, June 26th - Public Ribbon-Cutting and "launch" of the Shipyard! Family events throughout the day with everything from face painters to costumed characters to pony rides. In the evening, it's the launch of the "Shipyard Sings" series with a special performance from Nota, the winners of the NBC hit show, "The Sing-Off"! Sunday, June 27th - More family events all day with clowns, stilt-walking and a kid's concert. In the evening, special performance from Cape Cod a capella troupe "Hyannis Sound"! The Shipyard will come alive all summer and into the fall with special events, musical performances and family activities. The "Shipyard Sings" series will feature an a capella singing contest. Beginning in July, groups can enter for a chance to compete at facebook.com/hinghamshipyard. Five finalists will perform live at the Shipyard on July 31st and August 28th, with the audience choosing the two final winning groups (one each date). Goldberg of Spire Investments purchases Beverly portfolio for $9.2m

Beverly, MA Jay Goldberg, president and owner of Spire Investments has completed the purchase of four multifamily buildings. The 33-unit purchase amounted to a sale price of $9.2 million or $278,788 per unit. The properties are all located in downtown and consist of one- and two-bedroom units.
