The Salvation Army has purchased the former Kia Auto dealership property at 2458 Lafayette Rd. for $2.29 million.
The 33,000 s/f facility will be redesigned as a family thrift store which is part of The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) system. The ARC provides assistance to people who are struggling with substance abuse issues.
The facility with its acreage and fenced in property was perfect for the use planned by The Salvation Army as well as being in a retail area with visibility and accessibility

Local Salvation Army spokesperson emphasized that no funds from the Portsmouth community have been used, or will be used, for the purchase of the thrift store facility.
Jean Kane of The Kane Co. served as the buyer's representative and Chris McInnis of Paul McInnis, Inc. represented the seller.
