June 10, 2016 - Rhode Island

Vision3-PCHCSouth Providence, RI Vision 3 Architects celebrated with Providence Community Health Centers (PCHC)the award of Outstanding Smart Growth Project from Grow Smart RI. PCHC purchased a former manufacturing facility to develop an entire, urban block as a comprehensive healthcare campus to serve their patients in this community.

Over a ten-year period, Vision 3 Architects and PCHC demolished some buildings, worked to designate others as historic landmarks, renovated existing buildings, and constructed new buildings. Two existing historic industrial buildings, formerly Federated Lithograph Buildings, have been renovated and a new, 18,000 s/f two-story addition constructed to make up the new 41,750 s/f, LEED Silver Certified Prairie Avenue Health Center. The 50,000 s/f former Beaman and Smith mill building is now medical office space, funded in part by state and federal historic tax credits, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a winner of a Rhody Award for Historic Preservation from the RI Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission.

The completed revitalized development, including a new 4,800 s/f retail pharmacy, creates a healthcare hub in South Providence. Vision 3 is proud to support PCHC in helping  the community and is grateful to Grow Smart RI for recognizing the medical campus project as shaping a stronger Rhode Island through innovative revitalization and preservation initiatives.
