Wright Ryan project wins Maine Preservation Award for Excellence

Former Hathaway Shirt Mill
Former Hathaway Shirt Mill

Portland, ME The Maine Preservation organization presented the owners of the former Hathaway Shirt Mill with a State Preservation Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation.

Wright-Ryan Construction was able to preserve the architectural details in 300,000 s/f of the structure including all 400 windows designed and built specially to replicate the originals. The project team, Wright-Ryan Construction and Barba + Wheelock Architects, worked diligently within the Department of Parks and Services guidelines for historic properties. Their efforts were recognized at Maine Preservations Annual Awards Ceremony held at the Irish Heritage Center.

The 19th Century mill was originally built for a cotton manufacturing company and later became home to Hathaway Shirt's as their manufacturing site. In 2006, Paul Boghossian, with ties to Waterville through Colby College, and his business partner, Tom Niemann, purchased the Hathaway property. The mill is now home to MaineGeneral Hospital and Healthreach offices, several other commercial tenants, and 66 luxury condominiums.
