Kaplan Construction certified as a Women Business Enterprise

Kaplan Construction, a general contractor and construction management firm providing comprehensive building programs to commercial, healthcare, multi-family, worship, institutional, and historic rehabilitation/adaptive reuse clients across Greater Boston, has been certified as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Kaplan recently announced the culmination of a three-year management transition where Jane Kaplan Peck was appointed chief operating officer and majority owner.
WBEs are entities that are at least 51% owned and/or controlled by women. Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and women owned businesses provide ever increasing value to the Massachusetts economy, making up the state's fastest growing business sector in the Commonwealth.
"My vision for Kaplan Construction as a Women Business Enterprise is twofold: to continue to service our clients in the personal and professional manner we have in the past, and to participate in new opportunities with potential clients who are seeking to meet their own diversity objectives," said Peck. "I plan to utilize our core principles and build on Kaplan's 38 years of excellence as we widen our base of satisfied clients."
During its 38 year history, Kaplan Construction has been committed to supporting local WBEs and MBEs.
Over the course of its work on the recently completed Bornstein and Pearl Food Production Small Business Center, Kaplan employed a significant number of construction workers from the local neighborhood (57%) in addition to minority (45%) and women-owned (19%) sub-contractors from the Greater Boston region. Led by Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation (DBEDC), the project converted the vacant former Pearl Meats manufacturing facility and adjacent land into a 36,000 SF multi-tenant, light industrial business center with a focus on small-scale food production.
Kaplan Construction is a general contractor and construction management company that provides comprehensive building programs including preconstruction planning, construction management, design-build services, and general construction for commercial, healthcare, multi-family, worship, and institutional clients. Serving Greater Boston since 1976, the company's proactive approach features lean building techniques and integrated project delivery (IPD) that often realize substantial cost savings and earlier completion dates for its clients, while its dedication to safety far surpasses industry standards.
