What current or recently completed project, accomplishment or initiative are you most excited about, and why does it matter for your team, clients or community? I’m most excited about the recently completed Bullard-Havens Technical High School, which serves 936 students in the Bridgeport, CT area. At the ribbon cutting, a young woman from the Plumbing & Heating program spoke with confidence and passion about her future in a traditionally male-dominated trade. Her poise and determination was inspiring, and a powerful reminder of how technical schools are evolving and opening doors for more women in the trades. Our team is proud to support these important projects that expand opportunities and help grow skilled young people in our communities.
What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry? The industry has become more inclusive over recent years, and women’s voices are being heard – embrace this! Be confident in your ideas and abilities but remain approachable and open to learning from others. Stay flexible, listen, collaborate, and compromise, but don’t be afraid to stand firm when you believe a better solution exists. Value teamwork, keep learning, ask questions, and lean on mentors – being adaptable and assertive will help you grow and make an impact in our industry.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity? Cooking is my creative outlet that helps me unwind. I love experimenting with flavors and whipping up family favorites.
What habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated during a busy week? I start each day reviewing my calendar and to-do list. Crossing off tasks keeps me motivated and energized for the week ahead.
What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today? I wish more women knew the construction industry and trades offer financially rewarding, exciting careers. Not everyone is college-bound, and career pathways in high schools or vocational schools – often overlooked by young women – offer hands-on opportunities that explore a variety of careers and trades that can earn you a good income money right away. These opportunities aren’t just for students – women switching careers or seeking growth later in life can also find pathways to success. Embracing these opportunities can build a career to be proud of that shapes communities and inspires others.
