What current or recently completed project, accomplishment or initiative are you most excited about, and why does it matter for your team, clients or community? I’m currently working on the expansion of the Sportsmen’s Tennis & Enrichment Center (STEC) in Boston, the nation’s first indoor nonprofit tennis club built by and for the African American community, and it has been incredibly rewarding. What makes this work especially meaningful is the way STEC continuously makes decisions based on the impact on members. Being part of a project that puts people over profit is a powerful reminder of what truly matters, especially in a world driven by deadlines and bottom lines.
What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry? Be fearless. You’ll make mistakes – take on the task anyway. You won’t know everything – ask for help. You may be the only woman at the table – speak up. If you don’t know the answer, pause and respond thoughtfully. If you’re overlooked, advocate for yourself. Never be afraid to say “no.” Outside opinions will try to shape your path, but the biggest barriers are often internal. Let go of fear. Say yes to growth, lean on others, set boundaries, and choose what excites you. You belong in every room you enter.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity? Traveling and spending time with loved ones are two of my greatest joys – especially when they come together.
