Norwell, MA Acella Construction Corp., a leader in construction management throughout greater Boston, has completed construction of a new four-classroom preschool for the South Shore YMCA Science Center, which is now open.
Located across the parking lot from the existing Science Center building, the new four-classroom Nature Center Preschool is the site for year-round programs and events, including the summer Y Nature Adventures Day Camp programs.
The preschool building design was inspired by the beauty of outdoor surroundings, incorporating vaulted ceilings and abundant windows for maximum natural light. Interior elements include dedicated bathrooms featuring easily accessible vanities for children and adults, a kitchenette for snack preparation, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry with reading nooks, cubby holes for children to store backpacks, a staff break room, and thoughtfully crafted millwork throughout.
Outdoor amenities include a patio adjoining each classroom, a new gazebo to offer a sheltered area for group activities or relaxation, and a lawn for additional recreational space. The project also addressed significant challenges at the existing Science Center property through a redesigned parking lot and enhanced traffic flow patterns.
“We are thrilled with the Acella team’s design and construction of our new Nature Center preschool building,” said Trevor Williams, president of South Shore YMCA. “This project reflects our commitment to offering programs that connect children with nature and foster a love for learning.”
“Completing the new preschool building for the South Shore YMCA Science Center has been a rewarding experience,” said Saul Schrader, president at Acella Construction. “Our team is proud to have created a space that not only meets the functional needs of the preschool but also enhances the aesthetic and environmental beauty of the site.”
