Kaplan Construction, a general contractor and construction management firm providing comprehensive building programs to commercial, healthcare, multi-family, worship, institutional, and historic rehabilitation/adaptive reuse clients across Greater Boston, has been awarded a project with the Adirondack Club, a private, family-oriented health club. Kaplan will build out a 5,000 s/f space to accommodate the Adirondack Club's expanded daycare program.
The Adirondack Club chose Kaplan based on a longstanding relationship dating back to 2001, when the two companies collaborated to build the original 55,000 s/f facility. At that time, Kaplan coordinated construction of the main clubhouse.
This spring, Kaplan is working on an accelerated six-week schedule to convert a portion of the lower level into a safe and welcoming space suitable for the children who attend daycare and summer camp at the club. The design, by Dennis Colwell Architects, will provide the club with an arena for indoor play on rainy summer days, along with classrooms, a reading room, a changing area, and renovated bathrooms. Another feature of the project is a new steel and glass staircase that will provide direct access from the existing first floor daycare to the renovated lower level. Four structural concrete planks will be carefully removed to create an opening that will infuse daylight into the space.
"Working with Kaplan will help us uphold our commitment to provide top-quality recreational space to the families in our community," said Robert Hinrichs, managing partner of the Adirondack Club. "The summer is a critical time for our members and we are confident that Kaplan can ensure timely completion of the daycare space to serve our families and campers."
The Adirondack Club was established in 1999 to provide the Norfolk County community with recreational and fitness space that serves the entire family. Members enjoy an 8,000 s/f workout area, three spacious group exercise studios, two heated indoor pools, eight championship tennis courts, a childcare center, and other areas designed for relaxation. In 2011, The Adirondack Club was awarded the Reader's Choice Regional Gold Award for its summer camp program.
