Aldi Supermarket enters R.I. area with new 15,700 s/f store

New England Construction an has begun construction for a new Aldi Supermarket. This will be the first Aldi Supermarket in the R.I. area. Aldi entered the U.S. market in 1976, with a handful of stores in southeastern Iowa. Now, more than 850 U.S. Aldi stores are spreading the from Kansas to the East Coast. In its 2007 report, Supermarket News ranked Aldi 24th in U.S. grocery chains in terms of gross sales. The new market will be located on Pontiac Ave. The new facility will total 15,700 s/f consisting of a sales floor, receiving area and office space. Construction is slated to be complete late next spring.
