Mid-November marked the opening of Beverly Hospital at Danvers Medical and Day Surgery Center, a new regional medical care facility. The opening was the culmination of the combined efforts of Beverly Hospital, College St. Partners, AMB Development Group and Dacon Corp.
Kevin Quinn, president of Dacon Corp. in Natick, MA, said, "This project is a prime example of how we are revolutionizing the delivery of capital projects. The novel concepts applied to design, plan, develop, construct and control costs are surely the ways of the future."
From day one of the 12-month construction process, the developers and user groups formed a unique working relationship that ultimately resulted in a facility of technological excellence accented by features designed to enhance easy access and user-friendliness. "In addition to delivering a first-rate medical facility, the project came in on time and on budget," says Quinn.
Robert Corson, AIA, architect at Exeter Hospital's facilities planning department, said, "As a guest of both Beverly Hospital and Dacon Corporation at their open house featuring the new medical facility in Danvers, I was struck by the openness of the process and impressed by the product that has been delivered. There appeared to be a true relationship between the owner and the development team that was mutually beneficial and without the perception of friction between them."
The three-story, 99,000 s/f, $30 million facility is exemplary in terms of both design and functional performance. For patients, gone are the days of having to travel to different buildings, or even different locations, to receive multiple services. Key services are grouped logically according to patients' needs, increasing both patient comfort and provider efficiency. Two levels of free parking surround the building to ensure easy access for both patients and hospital employees.
Edward Holden, manager of plant operations at Beverly Hospital, says, "This was the best DPH experience we have ever had at the hospital. The inspectors had minimal comments and identified far fewer issues with this facility than with previous major construction projects."
