Bowdoin Construction has been named the recipient of a first place Excellence in Construction Award from the Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
Bowdoin's award in the annual statewide competition is in the "Commercial/Institutional/Industrial $1-$5 million" category for its construction of a new clubhouse at the Needham Golf Club. Bowdoin is one of only 16 contractors selected as recipients of ABC's 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards.
All construction on the project was completed in less than seven months to allow the club to meet its Memorial Day opening deadline. Although Bowdoin is a general contractor, the company self-performed 15% of work on this project.
Project owner Needham Golf Club and architect Maugel Associates were recognized along with Bowdoin as part of the project team.
The award winners were determined by an independent panel of expert judges based on execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, safety and other considerations. The judges were: Daniel Carson, Daniel Carson Consulting Engineering; Charles Sacre, Kleinfelder/SEA Consultants; Paul Tyrell, STV Inc.; and Jim Flanagan, FlanaConsulting.
"Bowdoin's work represents the state-of-the-art in construction," said Mass. ABC president Greg Beeman. "They should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry."
