Campanelli Construction breaks ground on new South Shore Medical Center facility

Campanelli Construction, a construction management firm and division of Campanelli, broke ground on the new South Shore Medical Center facility. The 80,000 s/f medical building located on Longwater Dr. is expected to open in late 2013 and will consolidate South Shore Medical Center's existing Norwell office and its Weymouth facility into one location. The facility will be the anchor of a planned medical campus situated in Assinippi Park. This will be Campanelli Construction's third medical facility project. The company's medical portfolio includes Weymouth Woods Medical Center, constructed for oncology, women's health, orthopedic and physical therapy services located in Weymouth, as well as 2 Pond Park in Hingham, which features a day surgery center including six surgery suites, pain clinic and imaging diagnostic center. "Campanelli Construction is proud to be working with FoxRock Properties and their client, South Shore Medical, in this turnkey, build-to-suit project. This medical facility will continue to illustrate the breadth of complex medical construction Campanelli is capable of managing." said Jeff DeMarco, president of Campanelli Construction. The new facility will feature 100 examination rooms and 70 medical offices, along with easier access, additional parking, less traffic, comfortable waiting rooms and care areas, and more advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment for the center's team-based care of patients. As part of a planned medical campus, the new facility will make it more convenient for patients to access additional medical services in one location. "By relocating our Norwell and Weymouth practices to a new and larger facility in Norwell we will be able to continue to provide the highest quality care to our patients, utilizing a team-based approach that is the model of patient care for the future," said Dr. Stan Sacon, chief executive officer of South Shore Medical Center. "Our new facility will be the centerpiece of a medical campus that will provide a wide range of medical services in one convenient location. We are excited to take this important step into the future as we celebrate our 50th anniversary of serving the South Shore community." The new South Shore Medical Center facility is being jointly developed by South Shore Medical Center and FoxRock Properties of Quincy. FoxRock Props. acquires, develops and manages commercial property in Massachusetts, specializing in professional and medical office properties. The company has over 1 million s/f of property under management on the South Shore. "South Shore Medical Center's mission is to make it easier to be healthy," said Sacon. "By relocating to a larger facility just a few miles away from our existing Norwell building, we will be able to offer expanded services, more advanced team-based care, and easier access to medical care for our 65,000-plus patients and the entire South Shore community."
