The Foncellino team of Coldwell Banker Commercial division in Cumberland, listed and sold the historic "Star Diner," at 140 Newport Ave. The 5,000 s/f diner features a 120-seat capacity, juke boxes at each booth and honored by the State Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission. Sancliffe Corp. Star diner was the seller and Persy's Place Restaurants was the buyer. Wluka Real Estate represented the buyer.
The Sanford family took many years restoring the diner but unfortunately closed it due to an illness in the family.
The new owners, the Heston family, owners of Persy's Place, have 8 restaurants located in Mass. They are known for their breakfast and lunch menu.
This will be their first location in R.I. and although they plan renovations, they will maintain the diner in its present "historic" condition.
