Columbia Construction completes 35,000 s/f multi-phased interior renovation of Hyatt Regency Boston

Columbia Construction Company provided construction management services to the Hyatt Regency Boston, located in the city's Theatre District. The design team was Stonehill & Taylor Architects and Planners. This multi-phased 35,000 sf project included renovations to the hotel's 3rd floor lobby level, including the Avenue One restaurant; four large meeting rooms; several prefunction/circulation areas; the Thomas Jefferson Grand Ballroom, and the Adrienne de Lafayette Ballroom. The project also consisted of renovations to the hotel's conference center. The goal was to provide Hyatt's business clients with a contemporary venue for their meetings and events. Columbia Construction worked closely with a NYC artist on the coordination and installation of custom wall panels featured in the Martha's Vineyard Room and in the hotel's Thomas Jefferson Grand Ballroom. The material used for the panels is made of 100% polyester. It not only met Boston's strict Fire Protection Code, it is also a sustainable product. The artist, Carla Weisberg, shared her creative and technical approach to this project. "Usually when a contractor hears the word 'custom' they immediately think installing these panels will result in a lot of mistakes. Columbia Construction's project manager, Matt Johnson, is fortunately very visual. It's been great working with him. There has been good communication between Columbia and my studio - it's been a smooth process as a result." Working within the architect's concept of nature and connecting the new space with the Boston Commons, Weisberg's designs were inspired by fauna indigenous to this region and the landscape drawings of Egon Schiele. Drawing on 85 years of experience, Columbia Construction Co. provides construction management services throughout New England. Its primary goal is to serve as a construction partner to our clients and to provide them with innovative solutions. Its work is focused within the hospitality, healthcare, academic, life sciences, and commercial/corporate market sectors.
