Communities United relocates from Lexington to 2,360 s/f at 500 West Cummings Park, in Woburn

Woburn, MA Communities United has relocated its operations base from Lexington to 2,360 s/f at 500 West Cummings Park. Founded in 1970 under the Head Start umbrella, Communities United provides affordable early education and social services to families in greater Boston that are at or below the poverty line.

In addition to its new administrative HQ in West Cummings Park, the nonprofit agency operates children’s centers in Lexington, Waltham, and Woburn. Together, the programs serve hundreds of children aged 15 months to five years from 11 communities along the Rte. 128 corridor.

“Given its nonprofit mission, the Communities United team was seeking a space that combined value with ease of access to its service area,” said senior leasing director Rob Yacobian, of Cummings Properties. “Its new corner suite at 500 West Cummings Park offers both, with free on-site parking, proximity to major highways, and convenient amenities along Washington St.”

Yacobian worked with Bruce Lee, founder of Lee Partners of New England, and Communities United executive director Mary Mastroelli to complete the deal.

“We were delighted to get the call from Bruce,” Yacobian said. “He has been a longtime partner to the Cummings organization and a strong supporter of our collaborations with local nonprofits.”

According to Yacobian, 100 percent of all rental profits at Cummings are dedicated for philanthropic purposes, with more than $600 million to date awarded to nonprofits in greater Boston.

Yacobian also noted the benefit of Cummings’ ability to accommodate future expansion.

“Communities United has grown substantially during its lifetime,” said Yacobian. “The breadth of our portfolio typically allows us to accommodate client growth in real time throughout the lease term, which means businesses can avoid paying for extra space before they need it.”

At its new executive headquarters, Communities United joins a community of child-focused nonprofits, including Plummer Youth Promise, Connor’s Kindness Project, Science from Scientists, and Mass Teacher Resources.
