Conn./Western Mass. SIOR present scholarships to UConn students

The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Chapter of the Society of Industrial Realtors has announced recent recipients of the Sam Pearson and Carl Traub Scholarships at the University of Connecticut. The students are all real estate majors at UConn's School of Business. In today's challenging economic climate, it is especially gratifying the Chapter can continue providing needed financial assistance to deserving students demonstrating achievement in the real estate field.
A total of $12,000 was awarded to six University of Connecticut students. The scholarships were funded from the Sam Pearson and Carl Traub Scholarships, with matching funds provided by the SIOR Foundation.
The 2008/2009 scholarship recipients are Steven Iannaccone, Lance Rambush, Greg Carbonella, Christine Elmore, Charles Gill and Brendan Bayers.
Steven Iannaccone has achieved All Big-East Student Athlete Honor Roll for five semesters competing in indoor and outdoor track and field. He is also a licensed real estate agent in New Jersey complementing intern work outside the classroom.
A Dean's List student with a major in finance and real estate, Lance Rambush served in the U.S. Marine Corps. for three years before beginning his academic career at UConn.
Greg Carbonella is also a Dean's List student majoring in finance with a real estate concentration, and recently completed an internship with Prudential Financial.
Enriching her real estate studies, Christine Elmore has completed semesters abroad at the Institute at Palazzo Rucellai in Florence, Italy and UConn New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, and Mumbai, India; and more recently completed an internship with CBRE Capital Markets.
Charles Gill has been on the Dean's List his entire academic career at UConn, and has complemented his education with internships at O, R & L Corp. and Calyon Credit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank.
Brendan Bayers, a Dean's List student majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies completed a recent internship at NorthMarq Commercial Real Estate Services in Bloomington, MN, and for the past three years has participated and competed on UConn Men's Varsity Ice Hockey team.
The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts SIOR Chapter has two scholarship funds: the first in honor of Samuel Pearson a long time member and past national president of the organization, and the other in memory of Carl Traub, another long time chapter member who had a significant positive impact on the commercial real estate industry. The Chapter's scholarships are supported with matching funds from the SIOR Foundation. The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Chapter is one of 43 chapters of the prestigious international organization, the Society of Industrial and Office realtors. Commercial real estate professionals must meet rigorous requirements to earn the SIOR designation. SIOR, based in Washington, DC has more than 31 members in 480 cities and 20 countries and was founded in 1941. SIORs are top producers who are required to complete an educational recertification program every three years, assuring those who need the services of a commercial agent that the SIOR has achieved continued excellence.
The SIOR Foundation's mission is to promote and support initiatives that expand, educate and enrich the commercial real estate community. Established in 1962 to publish the industry's first graduate level text book on industrial real estate, SIOR Foundation has maintained its dedication to expanding and understanding the commercial real estate industry. The Foundation has a matching scholarship program available to the various local SIOR chapters.
