Over 25 members of The Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors recently met at the Stamford Yacht Club for their quarterly meeting. The meeting was led by its president, Carl Russell, SIOR. Various committees reported on such subjects as Governmental Affairs, Educational Opportunities, Scholarship and Community Service. The meeting was very informative with lively discussion on several topics. The meeting was followed by camaraderie, networking, cocktails and hors doeuvres overlooking Stamford Harbor and Long Island Sound.
Members and guests completed the evening over dinner, listening to an informative and entertaining presentation by Jim Randel, attorney/investor/broker. Randel spoke of deal making and the importance of being persistent if you want to be an entrepreneur. Randel is the author of Confessions of a Real Estate Entrepreneur: "What it takes to Win in High Stakes Commercial Real Estate."
YANKEE STADIUM EVENT
On Friday, Sept. 7th, the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts Chapter of SIOR participated in a networking event at Yankee Stadium. This was a joint effort and participation by SIOR and CCIM organizations from the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire. Over 250 people attended, taking a private tour of Yankee Stadium including Monument Park, the Yankee Clubhouse and dugout, and other areas in "the house that Ruth built". Participants had a chance to meet and obtain autographs from former Yankee greats Bobby Richardson, Roy White and Johnny Blanchard; and former Red Sox pitcher Bill "Spaceman" Lee. The event included lunch and drinks. A great time was had by all, and plans are to hold a similar afternoon in the future at Shea Stadium and Fenway Park. Attending from the Chapter were Carl Russell, his wife Marla, and his dad Joey; Mark Duclos and his dad Ed; Maura Cochran and her husband Bill; Tom Hill, David Gorbach, and Alan Fisher.
