Storrs, CT The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) has named the University of Connecticut Scholarship recipients for the 2015/2016 academic year.

A total of $11,000 was awarded to four deserving students from UCONN’s School of Business, all majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economics.  The scholarships are funded from the chapter sponsored Samuel F. Pierson and Carl F. Traub scholarships, with matching dollars provided by The SIOR Foundation.

The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts SIOR chapter is delighted to acknowledge its latest scholarship recipients: Francesca Michel, Brenden Moore, Abigail, and Alexandra Michaud.  All the recipients are Deans List students.

Michel is a senior, majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economics.  Michel has completed internships with Cushman & Wakefield, and more recently with UBS Realty Advisors.  She credits her internship experiences in shaping her decision of moving from an undecided major to focusing her studies and career path in commercial real estate.

A senior majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economics, Moore, has been an active member of the UCONN Real Estate Society, currently serving as its CFO.  Moore completed a recent internship with CIGNA Realty Investors, working in equity asset management, debt asset management, and originations/acquisitions. He has also studied abroad in Florence Italy.

Murphy is a senior at the University of Connecticut majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economics. Abigail  is a member of UCONN’s Real Estate Society, currently serving as its secretary.  She has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and with the UCONN Alternative Breaks, participating in a week long service trip to New Orleans.

The final UCONN scholarship recipient is Michaud, also a senior majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economics. Michaud is a member of UCONN’s Real Estate Society, and she recently completed an internship at UBS.  Her internship experience has influenced her career goal of working as part of a team in a future real estate organization.

The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts SIOR Chapter has two scholarship funds:  The first is in honor of Samuel Pierson, a long-time member and past national president of the society, and the other in memory of Carl Traub, another long-time chapter member who had a significant positive impact on the commercial real estate industry.  The chapter’s scholarships are supported with matching funds from the SIOR Foundation (SIORF).  The chapter has awarded in excess of $350,000 to deserving students at the University of Connecticut’s School of Business, concentrating in real estate, over the years.

The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts chapter is one of forty-six chapters of the prestigious international organization, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors.  Commercial real estate professionals must meet rigorous requirements to earn the SIOR designation.  SIOR, based in Washington, D.C. and founded in 1941, has more than 3,200 members in 593 markets located in 22 countries on 6 continents.  SIORs are top producers who are required to complete an educational recertification program every three years.  This assures those who need the services of a commercial real estate agent that the SIOR has achieved continued excellence.
