Essex, CT The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors recently held their annual meeting at The Essex Yacht Club in historic Essex Village, on the western shore of the lower Connecticut River.  Prior to the meeting, several members and guests joined captain Nick Morizio, SIOR, for an afternoon cruise to Hamburg Cove on board his sailboat.

Over forty members, guests, and sponsors were in attendance for the late summer meeting which was followed by cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and dinner.  Several members shared meaningful market related developments, transactions completed with other SIORs and chapter sponsors, and news from their areas or practices.

Maura Cochran, SIOR complimented Attorney David Glissman’s efforts in interrupting his summer vacation, to successfully assist with a time sensitive transaction in downtown Hartford.

In keeping with the maritime theme, Jeff Ryer, SIOR, CCIM provided an exciting presentation of his recent sailing Transatlantic Race expedition.  A proud member of the crew aboard the 43’ Shearwater, Jeff  had a great video from the perspective of their boat.  The race, which included a total of 31 boats, was to cover 2800 miles from Newport, R.I to Cornwall, UK.  Seven days into the trip, battered by three storms and winds up to 45 knots, the Shearwater had to pull out of the race after sustaining equipment damage (a broken boom vang, traveler, and ripped mainsail).

Fortunately the crew was fine, necessary repairs were made to the boat, and several days later they ended up in the Azores off Portugal.  We understand Jeff has his hand up for the return trip from the Azores to the Caribbean in December.
