Connolly Brothers completes new renovations at Boston College

BEVERLY, MA Connolly Brothers, a construction management, planning, design, and development firm for private, commercial, industrial, and institutional clients, has completed two major projects for Boston College, the latest in a long line of work that Connolly has done on behalf of Boston’s Jesuit university. The research university recently added a new laboratory to Higgins Hall, home to BC’s physics and biology departments, and also made a series of major interior renovations to Lyons Hall, home to classrooms and administrative offices.

“Connolly’s decades of work at BC also includes several dormitory renovations, a laser laboratory, animal care facilities, and more.” said Paul Scarnici, construction project manager at BC.“We have been working with Connolly for the past 15 years or so,” Scarnici said.

“In all that time, we have only had success stories. I appreciate their good work and I know that they always bring in good people, so I don’t have to worry about it.”

The Higgins Laboratory project involved mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work to ensure proper ventilation of laboratory gases as well as careful installation of specialized lab equipment. Named after Rev. Charles Lyons, S.J., Lyons Hall’s renovation included a complete overhaul of common areas within the existing building, which was built in 1951. Scarnici says that Connolly’s ongoing value to the university extends beyond the construction site and often begins in the planning phase.

“Connolly is one of the best estimators I’ve ever come across,” he said. “They ask a zillion questions, but at the end of the day, you get an estimate that’s pretty darned accurate.”

Connolly Brothers president Jay Connolly, a BC alumnus, said it is an honor to be called on to upgrade older facilities at his alma mater.

“I am forever grateful for the education I received at Boston College, and anything that our team can do to help advance this thriving university is a deeply satisfying way for me to demonstrate that gratitude in action,” Connolly said.
