Consigli Construction and Becker Structural Engineers complete Bates College chapel restoration

April 05, 2012 - Northern New England
The design/build team of Consigli Construction Co., Inc. and Becker Structural Engineers have completed a partial restoration of the envelope of the century-old historic Bates College Chapel.
Originally built in 1913 and modeled after the fifteenth-century King's College Chapel at Cambridge University in England, the Bates College Chapel is English Collegiate Gothic in style and remains one of the most architecturally significant buildings on campus.
Restoration of the chapel included installation of new stonework and repair of masonry finishes, repointing of all four towers and complete replacement of the slate and copper roof. The existing iconic copper cupolas topping each tower were completely removed, repaired and replaced.
Despite extensive scaffolding and staging over the entire building, the chapel remained fully operational and open for services, concerts and lectures for the duration of the project.
