Consigli Construction Co., Inc.'s Portland operations were recently honored with awards from the Association of General Contractors (AGC) of Maine and Maine Preservation for its work performed at Bowdoin College and at St. Ann's Church in Kennebunkport.
The McKim, Mead & White designed-Bowdoin College Museum of Art on the school's Brunswick campus was recognized by the AGC of Maine with a Build Maine award in the Building category.
The award, honoring the project team and client for their commitment to teamwork and preserving Maine's built environment, also recognized the contributions the project makes to the community. The Consigli team, with architects Machado Silvetti & Associates of Boston, took steps to enhance the usability of the structure while being careful not to alter the building's historic qualities.
The Museum of Art and St. Ann's Church both won statewide historic preservation honor awards from Maine Preservation.
At St. Ann's, Consigli's craftsworkers self-performed the majority of an extensive multi-phase masonry restoration on the 1892 church, designed by Henry Paston Clark of Boston. Also included in the restoration was the stabilization of the church's bell tower, which was dedicated in the memory of President George H. W. Bush's mother, Dorothy Walker Bush. The restoration work carried over to the church's interior, where Consigli repaired and cleaned masonry, and restored the altar and stained glass windows. The architect on the project was Theriault/Landmann Associates of Portland.
