Core Investments, Inc. presents four fall events for The LOT in South Boston

September 13, 2024 - Front Section

South Boston, MA Core Investments, Inc., a real estate investment and development company, will host four significant fall public events as part of its 2024 fall program of music, food, and fun events at The LOT. The second annual lineup of activities represents Core Investment’s commitment to the emerging On the Dot neighborhood and includes Taylor Swift Movie Night on Friday, September 13; the Flea Market on Saturday, September 28; Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 12; and Halloweenfest on Saturday, October 26.

The first event following the August end of summer was Touch-a-Truck, on September 7, featuring big rigs, first-responder vehicles, and other large-wheeled rolling stock to be of interest to kids and adults. Neighborhood residents and visitors can learn about and explore a range of trucks that will be on The LOT for up-close, first-hand experiences.

Like some of Core’s other events on The LOT, Touch-a-Truck had a familiar giveback element, with community organizations participating and offering donation opportunities for groups including the Andrew Sq. Civic Association, South Boston Boys & Girls Club, South Boston Moms Club, Girl Scouts, Boston Lyric Opera, and South Boston Neighborhood House. All events on The LOT take place outdoors and are weather-dependent, so dress accordingly.

On Friday, Sept. 13, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” will be shown, the movie version of her live tours, beginning at 7 p.m. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a live performance of some of Swift’s greatest hits, and bracelet-making materials will be available from Boston Beaded.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, noon-5 p.m., Core’s Flea Market will feature small businesses for the public can browse and shop for art, jewelry, clothing, and more. The rain date for this event will be on Sept. 29.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, 1-7 p.m., Oktoberfest will be celebrated, with live music, authentic German beers, games, mouth-watering food, and well-supervised ax throwing. The rain date for this event is Oct. 19.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2-8 p.m., The LOT will celebrate Halloweenfest, a family friendly event where kids can wear costumes, carve or paint pumpkins, and participate in other Halloween-themed activities. The rain date for this event will be Oct. 27.

This year’s coming events grow from about a dozen well-attended 2023 fall events and extend through summer and fall from June 8’s successful Car Show on The LOT. They conclude with a Holiday & Christmas Market in early December. More than 5,000 local residents and visitors attended events last year.

They are held on The LOT, an outdoor event space adjacent to the popular, two-year-old Cannonball Cafe, at 383 Dorchester Ave. The LOT is a large gathering space on the new South Boston neighborhood On the Dot neighborhood, 21 acres of formerly industrial land along the west, or inland, side of Dorchester Avenue in South Boston. The area is being planned by Core Investments in phases of mixed-use development adjacent to Andrew Square along the MBTA’s Red Line.

This year’s events also include Farmers Forge on Saturdays, June 22 to Sept. 28, 9 a.m.-noon; Movie Nights every other Thursday, July 18 to Sept. 12, 7 p.m.-10 p.m. (Taylor Swift movie night is on a Friday, an exception); Sunset Socials every other Thursday, July 11 to Sept 5, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.; and Rhythm & Brunch on Sundays, June 23 to Sept. 29, 9.a.m.-noon.

Events on The LOT and throughout the On the Dot neighborhood, welcoming longtime Andrew Square neighbors and visitors from South Boston, the City of Boston and beyond, will continue as the mixed-use neighborhood is built out over the next few years.

Soft drinks, beer, wine and coffee will be served at most events, and food trucks will join for some as well. The Cannonball Cafe, adjacent to The LOT is open daily.

These events will be weather-dependent, and changes will be announced on the On the Dot Instagram page.
