Charles H. Hayes Building - Haverhill, MA

Dellbrook Construction, LLC, a Braintree-based general contractor, has been named a recipient of a second place Excellence in Construction Award from the Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
Dellbrook's award in the annual statewide competition is in the "Historic Restoration over $1 million" category for its restoration and conversion of the Charles H. Hayes Building. Dellbrook is one of only 16 contractors selected as recipients of ABC's 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards.
"Dellbrook's work represents the state-of-the-art in construction," said Mass. ABC president Greg Beeman. "They should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry."
The Charles H. Hayes project involved the total gut, historic restoration and conversion of a circa 1894 shoe box manufacturing facility into 57 units of housing for low- and middle-income residents. Competition judges took note of the rehabilitation of an asset that had been vacant for decades and will now provide economic and housing benefits to downtown Haverhill.
Project owner Planning Office of Urban Affairs and architect The Architectual Team were recognized along with Dellbrook as part of the project team.
The award winners were determined by an independent panel of expert judges based on execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, safety and other considerations. The judges were: Daniel Carson, Daniel Carson Consulting Engineering; Charles Sacre, Kleinfelder/SEA Consultants; Paul Tyrell, STV Inc.; and Jim Flanagan, FlanaConsulting.
