New Bedford, MA Dellbrook Construction/JK Scanlan Company has been awarded the $12.3 million contract for construction of the new 47,000 s/f Alma del Mar Charter School. The Alma del Mar Charter School currently occupies and uses a single story (circa 1918) school building on the Madeira Ave. The existing school building consisting of 26,000 s/f of space opened their doors in 2011 to 120 scholars.  Since then they have doubled in size and currently serve 240 scholars in grades K-5.

With the help of mayor Mitchell and the city council, the school secured their current site and its 2.3 acres for the long term. Construction of the new two story Alma del Mar Charter School will be constructed on the vacant east section of the school’s current site facing Belleville Ave.  The new building was designed by HMFH Architects, Inc. The school portion of the project is slated for completion by July  2016 and will offer grades K-8 by 2017-2018. The existing building will be demolished following completion of the new school.
