DeStefano Architects’s 7,900 s/f Greengard Center design approved by Zoning Board

Portsmouth, NH According to DeStefano Architects (D|A) the 7,900 s/f Greengard Residence, to be located on Brewery Lane, recently received unanimous approval from the zoning board of adjustment.

Other members of the project team include the builder and owner’s representative V. Todd and Co., MSC Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors, and Hoefle, Phoenix, Gormely & Roberts, providing legal services. 

As part of the Greengard Center for Autism (GCFA) the Greengard Residence will be home to four individuals diagnosed with autism who are 21 years of age or older. Each resident will participate in the Greengard Center Day Program, which provides a community based curriculum and is individually tailored to each participant’s interests and abilities.  The design of the house encourages social participation while providing customized space for residents. The goal of the center is to ensure a stable, safe and secure home while providing an enriched and expansive environment over a life time.

Executive director and founder of GCFA Barbara Frankel, Ph. D. said of the approval “I was so deeply touched by the warm welcome that The Greengard Center’s residence received from the Portsmouth zoning board of adjustment.  I am grateful for the heartfelt words spoken by chairman David Witham, recognizing the importance of the project, not only to individuals with autism and their families but to the community as well.”
