Erland Construction completes renovation of new headquarters for The Northeast Document Conservation Center
Andover, MA The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) has completed the transformation of its new 23,500 s/f headquarters at 600 Federal St. In collaboration with Erland Construction, Cresa, and Samuel Anderson Architects, the newly renovated space provides an environment designed specifically to support NEDCC’s mission of preserving historically significant documents, artwork, and audiovisual materials.
The new headquarters features an open conservation lab, imaging studio, color toning station, chemical storage, secure vault, audio control rooms, libraries, offices, and shared amenities. With a heavy emphasis on MEP systems, the facility includes specialized HVAC and integrated humidity controls to maintain the precise conditions necessary for document preservation.
“Our new home at 600 Federal St. is purpose-built to help us preserve the nation’s cultural heritage for generations to come,” said Bill Veillette, executive director of NEDCC. “Erland’s attention to detail, technical expertise, and commitment to minimizing disruption during the transition ensured a smooth relocation and uninterrupted operations. We’re grateful for their partnership.”
Construction was performed in an occupied building, requiring close coordination to minimize impact on other tenants. Erland also worked with NEDCC to develop and implement a strategic relocation plan, ensuring the Center’s downtime was minimized to the greatest possible extent.
“This was a truly collaborative effort to deliver a one-of-a-kind facility tailored to NEDCC’s highly-specialized needs,” said Matt Combs, Advanced Technology/Life Sciences Group manager at Erland. “We’re proud to support the important work NEDCC does to preserve the stories of our shared history.”
The fast-tracked project was completed in just six months, marking the first partnership between Erland and NEDCC.
With its new headquarters, NEDCC is well-positioned to expand its capabilities and continue leading the field in the preservation of our nation’s most valuable cultural and historical assets.
