Essex Builders Corp. has completed construction of the $3.9 million Elm Place at 1066 Cambridge St. for Just-A-Start Corp. This 25,000 s/f, four-story building includes 19 affordable apartments with select retail space at street level. The design by VMY Vitols Architects includes a 24 kilowatt solar power plant, and is expected to be awarded LEED Gold certification. Leases have already been signed for 15 units with the remaining four close to being finalized. Interest exceeded what was available and Just-A-Start has had to close the wait-list.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on June 23.

The Just-A-Start non-profit program continues to flourish, providing affordable housing solutions to Cambridge residents and surrounding communities. Elm Place brings their completed project totals to: 561 rental apartments; and 120 condominiums with financing specifically structured for first time home buyers.
