During the organization's 54th Annual Meeting on September 17th, the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton honored Janet Edsall Fields for 35 years of service on the board of directors. Fields and her husband Allen are owners of the Chestnut Hill branch of REMAX First Realty and they have shown great generosity and dedication to support the youth of Newton.
Fields began her involvement with the Club as a parent of a "Club Kid" in 1974. Over the last 35 years she has sponsored hundreds of events and just last year she donated basketball jerseys for more than 400 children. Fields pledged time, energy, expertise and resources to help the club grow from a small neighborhood organization to a vibrant city-wide resource serving over 750 children annually. She did all this while raising her family and building a successful career and establishing one of the most respected real estate firms in the region.
Fields was joined at the gathering by Newton's mayor David Cohen as well as a few of the club's better known alumni, Newton Fire Chief Joseph LaCroix and Newton Police Chief Matthew Cummings, and Newton School Superintendent V. James Marini, Ph.D.
