Gilbane completes new 3,500 s/f Citizen's Bank branch building
Gilbane's special projects group completed construction management services for a new 3,500 s/f model branch for Citizen's Bank. The building is a stand-alone brick facade facility within a new retail plaza.
The bank, designed by idGroup of Boston, includes 6 teller stations, glass walled offices, a conference room and plasma screen televisions. Design elements create a welcoming atmosphere for customers. The new facility also includes a 24-hour ATM along with drive-up teller stations, a drive-up ATM and a night drop-off box.
Challenges that could have delayed the project included the location of the new bank and severe winter weather. The construction team had only six feet of space to set up the rigging and scaffolding needed to install the glass and aluminum storefront. Winter weather extended into March and the team had to begin steel erection prior to the installation of the concrete walled vault. Once the steel was complete the team carefully maneuvered through the steel to set the concrete slabs in place for the vault.
"Gilbane had a very hardworking and dedicated team that did whatever it took to make this project a success," said Greg Emerson, Gilbane's project manager. The project was completed on-time and within budget with no safety issues. The new branch opened to the public on August 17.
Gilbane has worked on the construction and renovation of over 100 branch locations and several corporate offices for Citizens Bank throughout New England.

Now what? As the year comes to a close, the state of retail is always in the news. The answers vary greatly depending on who in the various related industries you ask, each offering a unique lens on the challenges and opportunities ahead.
