Greater Hartford BOMA has been plenty active this summer

August 15, 2013 - Connecticut
So I closed last month's message with a guarantee that the rain would stop, otherwise it wouldn't. Well, sure enough as I am writing this we are experiencing another day of heavy rains here in Conn. Hopefully everyone has taken advantage of the "opportunities" to identify water infiltration issues on and around your properties, and get them resolved! Make the best of out of a bad situation (or rainy day).
Summer is usually the time things slow down a bit for BOMA as everyone takes advantage of the warm months and vacations with family and friends, but we have been plenty active here in the Greater Hartford local.
First off, I am proud to announce a few chairperson appointments to some of our committees. We are in process of strengthening our committee structure and forging ahead with big plans for 2014.
So without further ado.... I would like to announce the appointment of Jennifer Rossi and Brycen Spencer of Siemens Industries as co-chairs for the programming committee. Jennifer and Brycen have already been instrumental in getting our calendar planned out for the rest of the year and into 2014 (see below). We are currently looking for members interested in helping out on the program committee as we look to see what other programs we can come up with for the future.
I would also like to announce the appointment of David Berthold of Performance Services and Jessica Enxuto of Otis Elevator as co-chairs for the membership committee. Both David and Jessica are longtime supporters of Greater Hartford BOMA and are huge assets for the Membership Committee. Together with a full and comprehensive schedule of events for next year, we are hoping to expand our membership. If you are not a member, please give some consideration to attending one of our events (of course our members should always consider attending) and checking us out. We are always looking for new members.
As for the other activities within Greater Hartford Chapter of BOMA, we managed to avoid the rain and had a great day at Avon Country Club on July 15th for our annual Gus Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament. A great time was had by all and we even had a hole-in-one!
We had another great "BOMA After Hours" event on August 8th at beautiful Salute in Downtown Hartford, located at 100 Trumbull St. It was another beautiful evening out on the patio with longtime members, new members, and some prospective members. Keep your eyes open for our next "BOMA After- Hours" event!
Where are we going to be next?
On September 10th we will have a presentation from the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) about required recycling and enforcement issues. This program will be at the Society Room of Hartford, located at 31 Pratt Street in Hartford; 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.
October 10th will be a new awards program we are holding. "The Best of the Best" will highlight properties in our area that stand out above others. We hope you will join us. We will be holding this event at 960 Main St. in downtown Hartford from 5:30 - 9 p.m.
On November 19th we will have a program entitled "What's Happening in Your Town" that will highlight current projects going on in 3 different area towns (East Hartford, Glastonbury, and West Hartford). We are extremely excited to be holding this event at a new venue, Goodwin College in East Hartford from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.
And of course December will be our Annual Holiday social.
Please check in on our website at http://www.bomahartford.org/ for information on all of the great programs I have listed, as well as any other information you may need regarding our local and links to BOMA International.
Also, dues invoices for 2014 are scheduled to be mailed out in late September so please be sure to get your dues into your budgets for 2014. And as I mentioned, we have big plans for 2014! Please consider bringing a prospective member or someone else from your company to some of our events.
Wes Nicoll is the president of BOMA Greater Hartford, and is with Griffin Land, Bloomfield, Conn.
