Groundbreaking was held at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station for a new research and manufacturing facility for Mölnlycke Health Care. The groundbreaking represented the first new construction project in the civilian redevelopment at the base now named Brunswick Landing.
PC Construction Company was selected by Mölnlycke and the Mid-coast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) to build the $13 million manufacturing facility.
Designed Harriman Associates, the new 79,000 s/f facility will house a clean room production area, a two-story office wing and warehouse. A viewing walkway provides visitors a glimpse into the manufacturing processes. The exterior skin of the building is comprised of aluminum sandwich panels in a variety of textures and colors, and the curtainwall façade is punctuated with an entrance leading into a two-story lobby. Clean lines and materials provide a European feel to interior spaces. The building layout and structure are configured for ease of expansion.
The mechanical system is designed to help protect the cleanroom from contaminants with positive air pressure flowing from the space. Transition spaces maintain air pressure with interlocking high-speed roll-up doors, and all surfaces are durable and cleanable. The clean room also feature a walkable ceiling which segregates mechanical and electrical systems from the space for ease of service and further protection of vital production processes. A system of fans and dampers operates to cool the compressor room and to recover the compressor heat for building heating use when practical.
It's expected that the new facility will create more than 100 jobs.
Construction is expected to be completed in 12 months.
