Boston, MA According to Gilbane Building Company, Ryan Hutchins has been named to Boston Business Journal’s (BBJ) 40 Under 40. A panel of editors from Boston Business Journal reviewed over 375 nominations this year. Key factors in choosing honorees were professional accomplishments and civic engagements. The 2015 40 Under 40 class is the 18th since the Business Journal launched the program in 1998 and represents a wide variety of industry sectors.
Since joining Gilbane in 1997, Hutchins has served as project engineer, project manager, regional quality manager, director of special projects, project executive, business development manager and district operations manager.
Following his success as director of special projects, Hutchins was the youngest project executive in Gilbane’s New England business unit at age 31. “I distinctly remember when Hutchins started his career at Gilbane in 1997 as a construction intern fresh out of Wentworth Institute,” said Bill Gilbane, Jr., vice chairman. “Hutchins was named a senior vice president/regional manager in 2010, the youngest in our 142 year history and that is a direct reflection of Hutchins’s strong leadership, focus and determination.”
Hutchins’ civic involvement includes leadership positions in many industry associations and he currently serves as the Children’s Trust vice chair, Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology Chair, former MassPort Designer Selection committee member, Wentworth Trustee, and was the founding president of the Young Contractors Forum for the Rhode Island Chapter of Associated General Contractors. Hutchins is committed to sharing knowledge as a mentor. Hutchins created Gilbane’s partnership with Madison Park Technical Vocation High School in Roxbury to support minority participation in the construction workforce through internships and an annual construction scholarship. In addition, he teaches multiple classes through Gilbane University, the company’s training and development program, as well as Gilbane’s M/WBE Contractor Training Program to support developing the business acumen of local trade contractors through a seven-month program.

Hutchins retains a BS in construction management from Wentworth Institute of Technology and an MBA in business administration from Babson College. Hutchins also holds a MA Supervisors License and his OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
