Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción to debut $33 million La CASA - 26,435 s/f Latino cultural center

Boston, MA This spring, Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA) will debut La CASA: The Center for Arts, Self‑determination, and Activism, a $33 million, four‑story, 26,435 s/f cultural center that represents both a significant capital project and a milestone in community‑driven development. Located in IBA’s historic Villa Victoria, La CASA is the first purpose-built facility of its kind in New England dedicated to Latino arts, culture, and community empowerment.

Unlike many cultural or mixed‑use developments driven by private capital, La CASA is a rare example of community‑controlled development on land safeguarded decades ago through anti‑displacement organizing. The project underscores how real estate can reinforce cultural permanence and neighborhood identity rather than replace it.

Designed to honor both history and place, La CASA’s facade blends brick and terra cotta, reflecting the city’s 19th century architectural fabric, while glass elements symbolize transparency, accessibility, and connection. Inside, the building is anchored by a two‑story performance and community space with a large bi-fold glass door that opens directly onto O’Day Playground and an outdoor amphitheater, creating a seamless indoor–outdoor programming corridor unusual for dense urban environments.

Additional features include:

• Flexible gallery and classroom spaces;

• Community meeting rooms;

• An accessible rooftop deck for educational and cultural programming; and

• A layout designed for high public use and multi‑purpose activation

La CASA officially opens May 14, at 85 West Newton St.
