Jewett Construction wins Paul & Niki Tsongas Award by Preservation Massachusetts

NineZero Washington - Salem, MA

Salem, MA Jewett Construction will be awarded the 2019 Paul & Niki Tsongas Award by Preservation Massachusetts for their work on the NineZero Washington project. Since 1988, the Paul & Niki Tsongas Award has recognized the very best in historic preservation efforts, individuals and achievements across the Commonwealth. It is the highest honor that Preservation Massachusetts awards people, projects and places, and demonstrate the highest level of commitment to historic preservation in the Commonwealth. Jewett was the construction manager and general contractor for the project. Over 500 leaders throughout the New England A/E/C community will gather in Boston for the awards ceremony on May 8th.

The project was constructed for New England developer, Nine Zero Washington, LLC which is comprised of three partners; George Vernet, Kenneth Carpi and Thomas Carpi. This historic building in the downtown was restored and renovated in early 2018. The project was designed by Winter Street Architects with a specific emphasis on preserving and restoring the historical features and character of the property. Jewett Construction performed the 24,000 s/f restoration and two-story addition to the property. The 90 Washington St. building includes three stories of office space serving as the city’s administrative offices and public meeting rooms. The addition constructed at the rear of the building has been modernized with a two-story, louvered curtainwall system that was set proud of the surrounding structure to create visual relief from the surrounding metal cladding.

Craig Jewett, president of Jewett Construction is thrilled that this project has earned recognition from Preservation Massachusetts. “Winning this award is something that the entire project team and Jewett Family is incredibly proud of. Our goal is to always build high-performing, quality buildings for our clients and with historic buildings like this one, that goal is amplified,” Jewett said. “We are very proud of our project team, design team, subcontractors, vendors, and consultants. This was truly a team effort that resulted in NineZero Washington earning this wonderful award.”
