Lynnfield, MA JM Electrical is celebrating 40 years of excellence serving Greater Boston’s commercial construction industry. Founded in December 1985 by Paul Guarracino and now led by his sons Matthew (CEO), John (COO), and Andrew (Project Manager) the family-owned business has completed more than 25,000 projects representing over 6 million man-hours of skilled craftsmanship.
From the company’s first multi-million-dollar project at MWRA Deer Island in 1996 to today’s life sciences and commercial developments, JM Electrical’s portfolio reflects four decades of Boston’s evolution. The company has contributed to landmark developments including the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, the Big Dig, Vertex Pharmaceuticals’ Seaport headquarters that launched the Innovation District, the 61-story Four Seasons at One Dalton, and One Congress at Bulfinch Crossing, and the recent Logan Airport Terminal E modernization.
The company employs more than 200 union electricians who are proud members of Local 103 IBEW, a partnership that has remained strong since the company’s founding.
“Forty years is a remarkable milestone that could only be achieved through the collective work of our dedicated team,” said Matthew Guarracino, CEO and Principal of JM Electrical. “As we reflect on this journey, we’re humbled that a simple leap of faith has grown into a second-generation family business powered by several hundred talented professionals.”
The transition to second-generation leadership began over a decade ago, with Paul working alongside his sons to ensure a seamless handover while preserving both family relationships and business excellence. This thoughtful approach has enabled the company to maintain its core values while expanding its capabilities to meet evolving industry needs.
In 2025, JM Electrical was named the 9th safest electrical contractor in the nation by the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and received the NECA Safety Excellence Award, the only Boston-based contractor to achieve this national recognition. This achievement reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to creating a culture where every team member returns home safely.
“The JME team is made up of the best in the industry, who work every day toward ensuring we deliver the best product to our partners,” said John Guarracino, COO and Principal at JM Electrical. “With everyone pulling in the same direction, JM Electrical will continue to be successful for years to come.”
The company’s commitment to innovation is demonstrated through its 16,000 s/f Innovation Center in Woburn, which opened in 2022. The facility features prefabrication capabilities, hands-on training spaces, and client collaboration areas, addressing the construction industry’s workforce needs. The Innovation Center provides pathways into well-paying union careers while allowing JM Electrical to deliver service more efficiently.
JM Electrical’s services include building management systems that optimize HVAC performance and reduce energy consumption, EV charging infrastructure, advancing controls and automation, and power distribution for mission-critical facilities. In 2020, the company launched a dedicated Maintenance and Recurring Service Division offering electrical installation and repair, troubleshooting and proactive prevent, infrared thermal scanning, and emergency repairs across New England.
Recent projects demonstrate the company’s expertise across diverse sectors. At the 43-acre Cambridge Crossing development, JM Electrical installed building automation systems across multiple parcels, supporting industry leaders including Philips, Sanofi, Bristol Myers Squibb, and AbbVie. The company completed the building management system for Google’s 325 Main St. in Kendall Square and expanded Moderna’s Norwood facility to increase COVID-19 vaccine production capacity by 50%, enabling the production of 500 million doses.
Additional projects include the Novartis Campus in Cambridge, the Echelon Seaport, the 750,000 s/f Partners Assembly Row headquarters housing 4,500 employees, MIT developments including graduate housing and the MIT Museum, the MGH Lunder Building, and the Omni Boston Hotel in Seaport, among many others.
Beyond project work, Matthew Guarracino serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Building Congress, where he served as president in 2019, and as Treasurer of NECA. AS JM Electrical enters its next chapter, the company remains committed to the values that have defined its success: delivering exceptional quality, maintaining the highest safety standards, investing in its people, and building lasting relationships with clients and partners across New England.
