The Peabody Cos. launches 50 Acts of Kindness campaign

Knitted items created by the residents of Borden Place and Bedford Towers

Braintree, MA The Peabody Companies has launched its year-long “50 Acts of Kindness” campaign with a heartfelt community initiative by donating hundreds of handmade knitted items for infants at Southcoast Hospitals Groups.

Residents of Peabody’s Borden Place in Fall River and Bedford Towers in New Bedford crafted 531 handmade items – including hats, blankets, headbands, dress sets, and booties – using yarn largely donated by community members or their families, with additional supplies provided by The Peabody Companies.

The products were delivered to the Southcoast Health Ambassadors, a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting Southcoast Health, its hospitals, patients, and the broader community. The Ambassadors assembled the knitted and crocheted items into welcome baskets for families of newborns.

The knitting project marks the first of 50 community-focused activities The Peabody Companies will undertake throughout 2026 in commemoration of its 50th anniversary.

Over the course of the year, staff members and residents will participate in service projects, charitable giving, and resident-centered initiatives that reflect the company’s half-century of “putting the home in housing.” Many of these acts will support veterans, women, children, and families, reinforcing the belief that when families are supported, entire communities are stronger.

“This project is a wonderful reflection of our residents’ generosity and the spirit of Peabody,” said Melissa Fish-Crane, principal and CEO of The Peabody Companies. “For 50 years our mission has been rooted in caring for people and strengthening communities. Seeing our residents and team members come together to produce something so personal for local families is a powerful reminder that kindness creates connection. We’re proud to begin our 50th anniversary year with an act that embodies the heart of Peabody.”
