Keynote speaker Wiley brings leadership training to Boston

On June 12 over 180 of the top professionals in the property management industry attended our leadership training program with key note speaker Steven Wiley at the Granite Links Golf Club. The Granite Links Ball Room boasts a spectacular view of the Boston skyline and is an ideal location for hosting large events. It has been one of our chapter's goals over the last few years to bring relevant topics presented by nationally acclaimed speakers to Boston. One change to this venue introduced in 2014 was to move the time of the meeting form a morning breakfast to an evening event. This allows for a cocktail hour and more time for face to face professional networking. Wiley presented timeless leadership techniques using the Battle of Gettysburg as an example. The emphasis was on how to lead during stressful and rapidly changing circumstances. Wiley's clients include a majority of the Fortune 100 companies such as Apple, Shell, Stanley Black & Deck, Kellogg and Chase. They include scores of federal government agencies such as the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security and Presidential appointees. One of the most important ceremonies of IREM is the installation of new members. At this event we inducted an unprecedented 25 Accredited Residential Managers (ARM) members into the IREM family. We also inducted 3 Certified Property Managers (CPM) members that night. We are excited to announce that this event attracted over 50 first time attendees to an IREM event with the help of a radio advertisement aired on 9 local radio stations sponsored by ARS Restorations. We received a lot of positive feedback on this event and hope to continue this tradition in the upcoming years. Reaching a new and broader audience is another goal of IREM and we have strived to accomplish this both through our networking, media and new News Letter. Our News letter created with the support of NEREJ reaches over 20,000 readers. David Barrett is director of operations at Crowninshield Management Corp., and the 2014 president of IREM Boston.
