Landmark Structures completed the new headquarters for the non-profit cultural organization, ZUMIX. The new home of ZUMIX is the renovated 1920s era, Engine Company 40 Firehouse at 260 Sumner St. The 9,000 s/f firehouse was a total gut/rehab project by Landmark Structures.
Founded in 1991, geared towards the youth of Boston, ZUMIX is dedicated to building and educating the community through music and the arts.
This new site features a first floor with a 14 foot high ceiling and an open floor plan that will serve as a performance space. Other features of the building include space for a radio station, recording studio, a music production studio, classroom and practice space as well as office and exhibition space. Preservation of the building's historic features was a priority for ZUMIX. The building's original exterior was restored along with the replication of the historic 1920s firehouse doors that allows for the performance space to open up to the street to allow more interaction with the surrounding neighborhood.
Through coordination with architect, Utile Inc., this project was designed and built to meet LEED Silver standards.
