Hartford-based Electrical Wholesalers (EW) has occupied its new 136,000 s/f distribution center located in Middletown's Millennium Industrial Park. The EW facility is housed in one of two large structures at the Timber Ridge Rd. industrial site just off Exit 20 on I-91. EW has made a long term commitment to its space that represents more than half of the building's 230,000 s/f. The structure stands on land owned and developed by BLJ Millennium LLC, an affiliated company of Norwalk-based M.F. DiScala & Company
According to EW president, John Reznick, the relocated distribution center allows the company to better serve the needs of its customer base. "The operational efficiencies we've achieved with our new, centrally-located facility," Reznick said, "will enable EW to expand its business." The company currently serves customers located in Connecticut, western Massachusetts and New York State. EW, which has 21 branches and 375 employees in Connecticut, will maintain an inventory of more than $20 million in products and parts at its new center.
Middletown Mayor, Sebastian Giuliano, welcomed the EW move noting that it brings more than 70 new jobs to the city. In applauding EW's decision to become a member of the local business community, the Mayor cited his city's centralized location and economic stability as influencing factors in attracting new businesses to the area. Relocation of the Connecticut division of xpedx from West Haven to its own newly constructed building, located at the same Timber Ridge Road site, brought 31 new jobs to Middletown last December.
Other build-to-suit DiScala projects within the same structure occupied by EW are currently in various stages of design and approval. M.F. DiScala and Company is primarily engaged in the business of acquiring, developing, managing and leasing commercial properties and warehouse/distribution facilities throughout Connecticut and the United States. Its portfolio includes more than 9-million square feet in 23 cities located in eight states.
