Braintree, MA The Marr Cos. is expanding operations to a site south of Boston. In 2018, the company acquired 16 acres of land at 201 Commerce Dr. in Liberty Park. One-third of the parcel will serve as the new location for Marr’s crane and rigging operations and other products beginning in January 2020. This new site, known as Marr South, will provide conditions for Marr to meet its requirements for near-term growth and the expanding building industry.

The official groundbreaking took place on Flag Day, June 14^th. Attendees were welcomed by Dan Marr III, CEO and president of The Marr Cos., followed by remarks from mayor Joseph Sullivan, congressman Stephen Lynch and senator Walter Timilty. David Marr, Sr, president of Marr Crane & Rigging, closed the ceremony.

According to Dan Marr, “The new property is an asset for Marr operations on the south shore of Boston. We are greatly encouraged by the associations we have made with the leadership in Braintree and are confident that our companies will add value to the city’s economic future.”

Mayor Sullivan said, “I’ve come to know the Marr family and I’m so pleased they have chosen Braintree to expand their enterprise. Braintree has attracted good quality businesses and those companies bring not only employment and revenue, but also a level of vibrancy that helps the community grow. I know that The Marr Cos. will add to that growth and that they will be engaged in our community’s civic activities.”

The Marr Cos. has established a management team to develop Marr South that includes the following entities: Choo & Company, Inc.; Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc.; G & C Concrete Construction; J. C. Cannistraro, LLC; J. Derenzo Co.; Lucas Environmental, LLC; Mount Hope Engineering, Inc.; SPACE Building Corp.; Sullivan & McLaughlin Companies, Inc.; and Sunrise Erectors, Inc.

Headquarters for The Marr Cos. and its center of operations will continue in South Boston as it has since the early 1900s. Over the years Marr has expanded into a number of communities around the New England area that include sites in Boston, Canton, Springfield and Providence, R.I.

The Marr Cos., established in 1898, has played a leading role in the New England construction industry as a provider of specialized products and services. Family-owned and operated for six generations, Marr consists of four separate businesses comprised of Daniel Marr & Son Co., Marr Scaffolding Co., Marr Crane & Rigging and Isaac Blair & Co., Inc. These companies work independently yet collaboratively to contribute to the overall growth and development of the Greater Boston area. This is the company’s 122^nd year in service.
