Meet IREM Member: Christopher Mellen

Boston area real estate executive Christopher Mellen, CPM, ARM, has been elected president-elect of the nearly 19,000 member Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), an international community of real estate managers across all property types dedicated to ethical business practices and maximizing the value of investment real estate. Serving a one-year term beginning immediately, Mellen is a vice president of the Simon Companies, a national real estate owner, manager and developer headquartered in Braintree, Mass. With over 30 years of property management experience, Mellen earned IREM's CPM designation and its ARM certification in 1983. He has long been active in IREM's Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4, and has held numerous chapter leadership positions, including that of president. As well, he has been active in IREM at the national level, serving as a senior vice president, regional vice president and as a current member of the IREM executive committee. Mellen is on the real estate faculty of Boston University and also is a faculty member of IREM. He has twice been named "Real Estate Executive of the Month" by the New England Real Estate Journal, and was honored with induction into IREM's Academy of Authors. Mellen earned a BBA in real estate from Temple University and an MS in management from Boston University; also, a graduate certificate in project management and a master's of science in management from Boston University. He holds a Massachusetts real estate broker's license.
