Mount Vernon and National Development receive approval for WBZ station

Allston, MA The Mount Vernon Company and National Development obtained BPDA Board approval for its planned replacement of the WBZ-TV studio which was originally built in 1948

The new 62,000 s/f building will be located adjacent to WBZ’s current facility on land currently owned by the Mount Vernon Co. Bruce Percelay, Mount Vernon Co. chairman negotiated the transaction with WBZ and ViacomCBS. Percelay said, “This project represents an extraordinary opportunity for us and our partner National Development to build an iconic building that will enhance the burgeoning Allston neighborhood.” 

The three-story building designed by Gensler will feature a glass and metal skin and will house a studio, office and production space. The approved project includes substantial public realm improvements on the perimeter of the property. With construction of the planned building, WBZ will remain the only network affiliate broadcasting from a studio within the city of Boston.
