NEI General Contracting completes renovations at Silver Lakes Village Apartments

Orlando, FL NEI General Contracting has completed renovations at the Silver Lakes Village Apartments on behalf of its client, Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS). NEI’s Southeast team has worked with VOANS across its property portfolio in Florida and Texas to ensure its communities offer residents a safe, healthy place to call home while minimizing disruptions as renovations take place in occupied settings.

As a builder that routinely works with private owners and developers of affordable and market-rate communities, NEI understands how critical it is to protect and grow available housing stock. In Florida, older adults are often disproportionately affected by the high cost of living and look to organizations like VOANS to find affordable arrangements. The Silver Lakes Village Apartments are popular among seniors not only for their affordability but also due to on-site services like transportation, benefit entitlement, and much more.

NEI utilized a fast-track approach in completing the renovations, which impacted 104 apartment units across 83,559 s/f. This ensured residents, who were provided with temporary housing while the project progressed, could return home as soon as possible. During the renovations, NEI upgraded finishes, replaced appliances, installed new flooring, replaced the exterior envelope of the building, and made other updates that improved the quality of life for occupants.

“At VOANS, we prioritize developing and designing affordable housing that prioritizes the wellbeing of our residents and the community. We have chosen to work with NEI at multiple VOANS locations not only because of the quality of their work but also for the care they show our residents,” said Dejernette Beaty, senior vice president of housing for VOANS. “At Silver Lakes Village, NEI also worked to protect our budget while making critical improvements that our residents will enjoy for years to come.”

NEI continues to expand its operations in the southeast, adding key personnel to its management team. In recent months, Tony Tenreiro was promoted to vice president of southeast operations, bringing deep experience in multifamily new construction, historic adaptive reuse, and large-scale rehabilitation efforts.

“Working with VOANS has given us valuable perspective on how to care for the most vulnerable members of our population,” said Josef Rettman, president, NEI. “Creating safe, healthy residences for older adults and ensuring that properties like Silver Lakes continue to provide access to much-needed affordable housing is paramount to us, and we were proud to complete these renovations on an aggressive timeline.”
